| Using Yahoo Pipes to Generate Detailed Local Travel-related and News Information Richard Torian September 22, 2009 Two Yahoo Pipes search products have been created which show how Yahoo Pipes can be used to generate travel-related information. Markus Abalone created a Yahoo Pipes search product that will provide weather and travel information. Click here to see a demonstration of this pipe. The only requirement to run the pipe is to enter a city for which weather and travel information is needed. Besides weather and travel information, the following is also provided: 1. Mapping and satellite images; 2. Photographs appearing in Flickr that contain the city in the photograph’s title; 3. The Wikipedia page on the city; and 4. Recent news in RSS news feeds having the city in the news feed title. A second Yahoo Pipes search product, created by blueskyliner05 and modified by Richard Torian, provides the location of airports within a country. The airports identified in the search show their International Civil Aviation Organization codes. World-wide, there are over 9,000 airports with such codes. Enter a country name and the search product will show the map location of the airports located in that country. A satellite image is also available. The search product is also capable of delivering an Internet search (using the Bing search engine) of available information, using the airport location as the search terms. Since airports generally represent an important country geographically strategic asset, having a screen map pop up and showing the locations of the airports. and then quickly finding information related to any of the locations, seems to me to be a very unique and useful way of generating comprehensive locality information for a country. For someone who needs to find available travel-related information about local areas, on any continent, using these two Yahoo Pipes search products offers a very efficient and effective way of finding this information.
